Basic Firearms Instruction
Specializing in small class size and personal attention.
I start with a lecture on the Maryland Firearms Laws, basic marksmanship, firearms nomenclature and dry fire. We then progress to dry fire training and using Coolfire Trainers to build on basic markmanship fundamentals and firearm safety before moving to the range. Everyone will fire a minimum of 50 rounds using a handgun at varying ranges, both iron sights and red dots will be available for use.
This class meets the requirments for the Maryland Handgun Qualification License and students will receive a certificate upon successful completion. Maximum would still be 5 students.
Wear and Carry Permit Instruction
I have carried concealed since 1997 federal law enforcement officer. I would open carry when conducting enforcement actions with law enforcement marking and body armor.
I provide training in small classes, 3-5 students, in small blocks, for 4-6 hours. I do this so students can receive individual attention and retain the information and training provided. This also allows for limited distraction from personal schedules.
The best class would be 3-5 individuals that know one another and have a goal of receiving training and then continuing to progress with additional classes. I can teach the classroom portion at your home, if requested.
Upon successful completion, students are awarded certification for completing the 16-hour wear and carry class as well as the handgun qualification certificate. I also provide the 8-hour training necessary for recertification.
I do not provide fingerprint services.
Scenario Based Training
I've found scenario-based training, using trained professional role players, to be the best for use of force training. Digital trainers present set scenarios and don't allow for much movement by the student. Utilizing cool fire trainers and other training devices, students can be exposed to numerous real-world stimuli and develop confidence in dealing with real-world threats.
Marksmanship is important, as well as equipment selection and carry decisions, but the most important part of winning is confidence. People gain confidence through repetition, and scenario-based training allows for that repetition needed to build confidence.
Personal Safety Instruction with SABRE self-defense sprays
Utilizing SABRE lesson plans that I am certified to instruct with SABRE inert self-defense sprays so you'll see and feel how they work.
Using SABRE's lesson plans I'll provide infromation on personal self defnse concerns and solutions. We'll learn defensive patterns of movement and stances. We'll learn about the pros and cons of SABRE self-defense sprays. We'll use SABRE inert salf-defense sprays to gain confidence and skill in deploying them.
I recently became certified for civilian instruction and find SABRE to be an excellent company to partner with. We carried their product for over the last 10 years at the agemcy I retired from.
Defensive pistol shooting
These two classes provide additional instruction on skills necessary for concealed carry defensive pistol shooting.
Defensive Pistol One deals mostly with two-handed shooting, strong-hand only drills and weapon manipulation.
Defensive Pistol Two integrates support-hand drills and more advanced weapon manipulation and shooting positions.
Both classes will involve more shooting, require the students to have their own firearms, holsters, eyes, ears, and ammunition.
Both classes will address weapon malfunctions, clearing malfunctions, and getting the pistol back into action.
Both classes will involve point shooting at closer ranges as well as longer ranges requiring the use of sights
Home assessment and home defense
I'll start with a pre assessment discusion on your concerns and goals. I'll conduct a pre assessment digital survey of your property to prepare for the actual in person assessment. We'll discuss the exterior of your home and any security issues. We'll then discuss points of entry and possible reinforcements. We'll discuss emergency plans to include for fire and medical emergencies.
We'll review Maryland laws on firearms and proper storage. Once the physical assessment is complete we will conduct some scenarios that you are concerned about and are reasonable. After completion I'll provide you with an a report of the topics we discussed with the possible solutions/improvements.
Private Firearms Instruction
Specializing in one on one instruction or shooter-coach drills with one student or two individuals that have decided to work together.
I specialize in concealed carry and use of force training for what's probable, not possible. I prefer to use judgment in shooting targets and prioritize fast and accurate shooting from concealment. If you are in the security field and plan to open carry with a duty-style holster I can provide training for that as well. I have enjoyed the transition to red dot sights for pistols over the last two years and can provide training with respect to transitioning to red dot sights on pistols.
